The Department of Anthropology at Appalachian State University invites applications for a tenure-track, nine month faculty position in cultural anthropology at the rank of assistant professor beginning August 2008. Candidates must have an active program of research. Geographic and topical specializations are open, but preference will be given to candidates whose ethnographic work engages both theory and praxis. Candidates must be excellent teachers willing to work closely with students. Additional responsibilities are student advisement, service activities, and curriculum development, including the exploration of a graduate program. Ph.D. is required by the time of appointment.

The anthropology department has 150 undergraduate majors and offers the BA and BS degrees with concentrations in General Anthropology, Archaeology, Applied Anthropology, and Sustainable Development. Currently there are ten faculty whose research areas are India, China, Jordan, Mexico, Honduras, Oceania, Russia, Wales, and North America, including Appalachia. The department has a reputation for collegiality.
