In 1988, the College of Arts and Sciences instituted an Academy of Outstanding Teachers. All full-time faculty members of the College of Arts and Sciences who have been at Appalachian for at least two full years are eligible for this appointment. Any student, faculty member, or staff member may make nominations. No student may nominate a teacher under whom the student is taking a class at the time of nomination. We invite you to make a nomination to the Academy. Persons nominated may have been an instructor in lecture class or seminar at any level; lab instructors or directors of independent study; academic advisors or mentors. If you are interested in making a nomination, please complete the attached form, photo-copying the form for any additional nominations. In documenting your recommendation(s) for the Academy of Outstanding Teachers, please discuss how the nominee displayed: 1) Ability to impart knowledge, inquisitiveness, and the desire for continued learningNominations are kept on file and eligible for the award for five years. A committee of three faculty members and two alumni from the College of Arts and Sciences will select three or four faculty members for appointment to the Academy of Outstanding Teachers; one will also be awarded the College of Arts and Sciences Outstanding Teacher Award. Each nominee will receive their submitted recommendations when no longer eligible. Thus, faculty not achieving appointment to the academy shall be made aware of the honor due them by being nominated.
