THE WILLIAM C. STRICKLAND
The William C. Strickland Award honors the assistant professor in the College
of Arts and Sciences who has made significant contribution to the intellectual
life of the University. Dr. William C. Strickland, for whom the award
is named, was Dean of the College from 1968 to 1984 and a professor
in the Philosophy and Religion Department. 1. Academic regalia (Initially, the award will be the appropriate academic hood. As resources become available, it is anticipated the award will provide full academic regalia or equal funds for academic support to the recipient.)Nominations: All Arts and Sciences faculty are eligible to submit written nominations, including self-nomination. Nominees must meet eligibility requirements stated above. Nominations will also be accepted from outside experts in relevant fields. Application Process: A complete nomination must include at least: 1. Letter of nomination submitted to Selection Committee which should describe:Selection of Awardee: The Strickland Award Committee will select the awardee. The committee will consist of four members of the Advisory Committee to the Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences. At least one member shall be chosen from each of the following areas: Mathematics/Sciences, Social Sciences, and Humanities.(a) Accomplishments of the nominee while at Appalachian State University2. A curriculum vita attached to the letter of nomination. Procedures and Deadlines: 1. Call for nominations is March 1st; deadline for nominations is March 31st.Special Fund: A Foundation account is set up for the College of Arts & Sciences in the name of William C. Strickland. An appropriate monetary award will accompany the award when sufficient funds become available. |
