Description of duties, responsibilities and qualifications:
The Department of Government and Justice Studies at Appalachian State University invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professorship in public administration for the 2008-2009 academic year. The successful candidate will teach graduate courses in policy analysis and program evaluation, an elective at the graduate level, and undergraduate courses in public administration, state and local government, and public policy. The course load for this position is 3-3. Applicants should have education and training in public administration and possess the Ph.D. in political science or public administration (ABDs are encouraged to apply). Responsibilities also include student advisement, instruction at off-campus sites as needed, and participation in service activities.
The Master of Public Administration program is NASPAA-accredited and has over 80 students who specialize primarily in local government administration. The Department of Government and Justice Studies has over thirty tenure track faculty, graduate and undergraduate degree programs in political science, public administration and criminal justice, and over 700 students.
Appalachian State University is a member institution of the sixteen-campus University of North Carolina System. Located in Boone, North Carolina, the University has approximately 15,000 students, primarily in bachelors and masters programs in both liberal arts and applied fields.
