Description of duties, responsibilities and qualifications:
The Department of Social Work at Appalachian State University invites applications for the Chair of the Department of Social Work. Applicants must be at the associate or full professor rank and have tenure. Qualifications for the position include a doctorate (Ph.D. in Social Work or DSW) preferred, with Ph.Ds in related disciplines considered, and a Master of Social Work degree from a CSWE accredited program. Two years of post social work education experience is desirable. The successful candidate will have strong administrative and leadership experience directing an academic program, a robust record of scholarship, a commitment to quality teaching, a substantial record of extramural funding, and a desire to collaborate with faculty on developing a vision for the new department. In addition, the successful candidate will have experience in social work education, including developing accreditation materials and delivering distance education. The Social Work Department grants Bachelor and Master of Social Work degrees. Duties for this position include administration of the baccalaureate and graduate programs, teaching at least one course per semester, student advisement, curriculum development, and facilitation of the accreditation and reaffirmation processes. In addition to these duties, the chair is expected to engage in scholarship, mentor faculty, participate in service activities, and support grant activities.
