Description of duties, responsibilities and qualifications:

The Department of Sociology at Appalachian State University invites applications for a tenure-track nine-month faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2009. Candidates who are ABD will be considered, but the position requires completion of all doctoral requirements in sociology by September 15, 2009. Preference will be given to applicants with specializations in inequality (broadly defined) and one of the following: criminology or family. Instructional duties will include student advisement and curriculum development and may include on-line instruction and/or instruction at off-campus sites. Faculty members are expected to maintain an active program of scholarship as well as participate in service activities.

Appalachian State University is a member institution of the sixteen-campus University of North Carolina System. Located in Boone, North Carolina, Appalachian State University has approximately 15,000 students, primarily in bachelors and masters programs in both liberal arts and applied fields. Appalachian has both a traditional residential campus and a variety of distance education programs.
