The Department of Philosophy and Religion at Appalachian State University invites applications for a tenure-track nine month faculty position in Philosophy at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 2008. Qualifications for this position include: AOS: Social and Political Philosophy. AOC: Applied Ethics. The department also has a strong interest in someone with the ability and willingness to teach courses such as: Philosophy of Law, Environmental Ethics, Biomedical Ethics. Applicants are expected to provide instruction in both the area of specialization and the area of competence. Instructional duties will include student advisement and curriculum development and may include on-line instruction and/or instruction at off-campus sites. In addition to instructional duties, faculty members are expected to maintain an active program of scholarship as well as participate in service activities. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Philosophy or have successfully defended the dissertation in Philosophy by June 30, 2008.
