The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at Appalachian State University invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Spanish beginning August 2008. Qualifications for this position include: Ph.D. in Spanish Applied Linguistics or Ed.D. in Foreign Language Education required by date of appointment, native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English. Candidates should be willing to share coordination of beginning or intermediate Spanish instruction, team-teach a 6-hour methods course, or supervise student-teachers in the field. Successful candidates should be eligible to hold K-12 North Carolina teacher licensure. The ideal candidate would teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of expertise. Candidates should demonstrate ability to integrate technology into teaching. Instructional duties will include student advisement and curriculum development and may include on-line instruction and/or instruction at off-campus sites. In addition to instructional duties, faculty members are expected to maintain an active program of scholarship as well as participate in service activities.

The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures has approximately 16 full-time faculty and 18 adjunct instructors. The department houses 8 languages, 2 majors (French and Spanish), and 5 minors (Chinese, French, German, Spanish, Teaching English as a Second Language). The department has approximately 60 majors and over 100 minors in its various programs.
